Além de pintar, outra arte que amo é a da culinária. Mais especificamente bolos. Amo fazer - e comer kkkk! ⁣ ⁣ Em 2013 eu tive uma marca caseira, onde vendia bolos e quiches. Se chamava “Furabolos Tortas” e durou um ano. Apesar do trabalhão (pois fazia tudo sozinha, de casa), do preconceito (“onde já se viu? Com graduação e MBA fazendo bolos”? - sim, eu ouvi isso) e do pouco retorno financeiro, fui muito feliz neste ano.⁣ ⁣ Tenho visto muitas pessoas, nessa quarentena, postando suas artes na cozinha. For a very long time, I had to be extremely conscious about my motives for eating vegetables. For I was known to abuse their low caloric value during my ed and would consume copious amounts to try and satiate myself (this never worked as I still experienced extreme mental hunger). I eventually had to take a complete break from eating them in order to make progress in recovery. Now that I am in a better place, I am so happy to be reunited with my love for veggies! I now eat them because they are what I crave and not what I feel that I ‘should’ eat. I never use them as a means to eliminate carbs from a meal or hold me off from eating dessert. I also love to roast veg in olive oil and almost always flavour them with salt, herbs and condiments! Most importantly, I am not at all reliant on vegetables to ‘fill me up’ and am happy to eat meals without any vegetables at all. Basically, the aim of recovery is to be able to eat whatever you crave and eliminate all food rules! If you find yourself eating large amounts of veg whilst desiring other foods then I encourage you all to rethink your choices. #yourtherapistisreading “The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone” by Olivia Laing. Lately, in reading for pleasure, I’ve been drawn to books about travel and busy cities. I’ve returned to Patti Smith and Joan Didion again and again. I love Laing’s exploration of loneliness and it felt right to return when so many of us are feeling alone. Laing explores loneliness in relation to art as she meditates on the work of Basquait and Warhol and being alone in a big city following her own divorce. The book feels like beautiful non fiction but holds much clinical relevance. Are we ever truly alone? What does it even mean? Remember, as humans we seek and need connection. 👀 spot the 🐝 & a note on a surprising mental health trend rn: I’ve been talking to friends & reading & reflecting. What I’ve found is that a lot of people, myself included, are actually doing pretty okay right now. We are sad/angry/anxious about the situation, but not in the unhealthy quantities we might expect. My thought is that our normally subpar mental health has become the normal. Others are now experiencing the lows of depression, the uncontrollable anxiety. But the difference is that we prepared for this. We learned to manage extreme anxiety. We learned to get ourselves out of bed in the morning & push through our depression. We even learned how to have healthy interpersonal skills & resolve conflicts. All this time we spent in therapy or working on ourselves has come to fruition. We’re better able to handle these changes than our peers who haven’t previously had to use all these skills to be okay. Now everyone feels like we do on the regular, they just don’t know how to deal. (pay it forward if you’ve got it in you to do so!) On a personal note, I was laid off from a job that had irregular, late hours and wasn’t ideal for my chronic pain. While being unemployed sucks, I’m now able to stick to regular sleep & day schedules. So like yea everything absolutely sucks, but some of us are actually weirdly, surprisingly okay ?! #mentalhealth #dbt #covidmentalhealth #covid #selfhelp #savethebees
